Asheville’s best breakfast spots

Our Top 5 Places to Grab Breakfast in Asheville

Sunny Point
626 Haywood Road
Asheville NC 28806

Asheville is not just for tasting good beer and hiking in the mountains. Ashville does southern style breakfast as good as anywhere in the southeastern United States. Sunny Point is the most well-known breakfast spot in town. It was once featured on Good Morning America. Now, if you can wait long enough to get a table, Sunny Point has some of the best breakfast dishes around. The Huevos Rancheros are incredible, and even offer a tofu chorizo option instead of sausage. You can also get breakfast anytime of day, if you decide to avoid the crowds and go for dinner. Hint: if you get there at 8am on the dot, you won’t have to wait for a table.

Over Easy
32 Broadway Ave
Asheville NC 28801

Over Easy serves some of the best vegetable based breakfast dishes in town. Nearly everything on the menu comes with heaps of savory vegetables and sides. Like the Seasonal Has Bowl that includes rutabaga, red and sweet potato, and ramps. If you can make rutabaga and ramps with corned beef hash, you’re doing something right. Try one of the omelets that are loaded with mushrooms and cheese and onions.

Early Girl
8 Wall Street
Asheville NC 28801

Early girl is a little more of a traditional southern cooking. You’ll find classics like shrimp and grits, sausage and potato scramble, and pancakes. You can order small sides of any of the usual suspects – eggs, biscuits, sausage etc.. No matter what you choose, make sure to try the vegetarian herb gravy or the smoky bacon gravy. Breakfast is served all day.

Tupelo Honey
12 College St
Asheville NC 28801

Tupelo Honey is an Asheville style southern food restaurant. In other words, classic southern plates with a little more flavor and veggies…and a lot less butter. Tupelo is always packed, people come for the food and its always busy. The Appalachian breakfast is great – sausage, cider pork black eyed peas, roasted onion, potato cracklins and two fried eggs. But also try the Southern Shakshuka – baked eggs, goat cheese grits, avocado and creole sauce. If you go on the weekend, the menu gets better and the crowds get bigger.

Asheville City Bakery
60 Biltmore Ave
Asheville NC 28801

City bakery is the best local bakery in downtown. Coffee, pastries, sandwiches, etc.. Although you cannot get a large breakfast plate, if you’re in a hurry you can get exactly what you need. Obviously, they bake their own bread and use it for breakfast sandwiches and pastries. They also make a great small quiche pie. If you want to sit around and do nothing but look on your phone while you sip coffee, this is the place.
